About
Torontosoft Tools is a free collection of image and PDF utilities that run entirely in your web browser. The site is operated by Torontosoft, an independent software studio based in Toronto, Canada. Every conversion is performed locally on your device — your files are never uploaded, copied, logged, or even read by us.
What we promise
- Files never leave your device — every conversion runs in your browser.
- No signup, no accounts, no email collection.
- No advertisements, no sponsored placements, no affiliate links inside the tools.
- No analytics that tracks individuals — only aggregate, cookie-less page counts (if any).
- No paid tier on the tools themselves — they are free forever.
- No backend and no database — there is nothing to leak, log, or breach.
How it actually works
Each converter page loads a small WebAssembly decoder (libheif for HEIC, the browser's built-in codecs for JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF, pdf-lib for PDF assembly). When you drop a file, your browser decodes it in memory, re-encodes it to the target format, and hands you a downloadable copy. You can verify this yourself: open your browser DevTools, switch to the Network tab, and run a conversion. You will see zero outbound traffic.
How we sustain it
The browser-only architecture means hosting costs us almost nothing: a small server serves static files, and a CDN handles the rest. We do not need to recoup compute costs because there is no compute. In the future we may offer a developer-facing API on a separate subdomain for those who want server-side conversion at scale; that will be paid, but it will never affect this site.
