How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Drop your PNG files into the box.
  2. Each image is decoded by the browser and a Canvas exports a high-quality JPG.
  3. Download the JPG copies individually or in a batch.

Why convert PNG to JPG?

PNG is the right format while you are creating an image: every pixel is stored exactly, edits can be re-saved indefinitely without quality loss, and transparency is preserved. PNG is the wrong format almost everywhere else. Photographs, particularly anything with smooth gradients, sky, skin or fabric, compress 60–90% smaller as JPG with no perceptible quality loss. Email attachments, web upload forms, online stores, social media schedulers and most blog CMS systems either size-limit attachments or down-rez large PNGs anyway, so converting up-front gives you control over the result. The other reason to convert: many photo printing services, photo book platforms and some classic image viewers prefer JPG and either reject large PNGs or take significantly longer to upload them. The trade-off is that JPG is lossy and does not support transparency. If your PNG has a transparent background, the converter will fill it with white by default; for any other background colour or true transparency support, keep the PNG.

How we compare

The closest peer to this tool is Google's Squoosh, which also runs fully in your browser. Squoosh focuses on compression for the modern web and does not handle HEIC or batch conversion. Cloudconvert and Convertio cover more formats but upload your files to their servers and meter usage.

Frequently asked questions

Are files uploaded?+

No. PNG decoding is browser-native and JPG encoding is done by a Canvas. Nothing is sent over the network during conversion.

How much smaller will my files be?+

Photographs typically shrink 60–90%. Simple graphics with flat colours and sharp edges shrink less and may look slightly worse — keep them as PNG.

What happens to transparent areas?+

JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent pixels in the source PNG are filled with white in the output JPG.

Will text in my PNG look bad?+

JPG can introduce subtle artefacts around sharp edges. For UI screenshots, charts or anything text-heavy, prefer keeping PNG or use WebP for a middle ground.

Is the JPG quality adjustable?+

The default is quality 95 which is visually lossless on photographs. Per-file quality control will be added in a future update.

Does it preserve EXIF metadata?+

PNG sources rarely contain EXIF metadata, so the output JPG starts clean. If you need EXIF preserved between formats, mention it via the contact email.
