Convert PNG to WebP
Drop your PNG files and download WebP copies that are usually 50–80% smaller. Runs entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How to convert PNG to WebP
- Drop your PNG files into the box.
- Each image is decoded by the browser and a Canvas exports a WebP.
- Download the WebP copies.
Why convert PNG to WebP?
PNG is excellent for editing and screenshots but expensive to ship. WebP delivers the same picture at a fraction of the size and is supported by every modern browser, including iPhone Safari since iOS 14. The single biggest performance win for many websites is to swap their PNG hero images and product photographs for WebP. The trade-off is that WebP is lossy by default — keep the original PNG as your editable master and ship the WebP for delivery. If the source is sharp UI, text, or pixel art, switch to lossless WebP or stay on PNG to avoid edge artefacts.
How we compare
The closest peer to this tool is Google's Squoosh, which also runs fully in your browser. Squoosh focuses on compression for the modern web and does not handle HEIC or batch conversion. Cloudconvert and Convertio cover more formats but upload your files to their servers and meter usage.

Frequently asked questions
Is anything uploaded?+
No. Both decode and encode happen in your browser tab.
How much will I save?+
Typically 50–80% smaller files for photographs. Less savings on simple graphics and screenshots.
Does it preserve transparency?+
Yes. WebP supports alpha and the channel carries through from PNG.
Is encoding lossless?+
By default WebP is encoded lossy. For pixel-perfect UI assets, prefer PNG or use a tool that supports lossless WebP encoding.
Should I keep the PNG?+
Yes. PNG is the lossless master; WebP is the optimised delivery copy.
Should I use AVIF instead?+
If your audience is on modern browsers and you can ship a fallback, AVIF saves another 30%. WebP is the safer default.
